On the posthumous edition of Carlos Vega’s Algunas consideraciones sobre los sistemas tonales en los cancioneros* [Some Considerations on Tonal Systems in Songbooks], marking 45 years since the publication of Panorama de la música popular argentina and Presencia del modo frigio en la melódica criolla.
Abstract
Gerardo Huseby (1943–2003) wrote the two works included here between 1989 and 1990, at the urging of some of us who were part of his professional circle at the time—specifically within the Argentine Musicology Association and the "Carlos Vega" National Institute of Musicology. We encouraged him to apply his exceptional gifts for melodic analysis—which had been demonstrated in his doctoral thesis and in numerous studies on the Cantigas de Santa María presented in our academic community—to local repertoires.
