Heroines, martyrs and captives. Renewed native music and political uses of the past in the LP Mujeres Argentinas (1969)

In 1969, the musician Ariel Ramírez—a native of Santa Fe—and historian Félix Luna released an album titled *Mujeres Argentinas* (Argentine Women). It consisted of a series of songs centered on highlighting the role of women at various points in Argentine history. The recording was produced by Ramírez himself and featured Mercedes Sosa as the sole vocalist. The work achieved immense popularity, and many of its songs remain widely known today. This article analyzes the work by examining—through an intertextual approach—its musical, performative, literary, stylistic, and discursive aspects, as well as the context of its production.
