Abstract

The article provides an overview of the practice of a Latin American Musicology from within and outside Latin America the past eighty years. To this end, we assume that these practices have been developed under certain paradigms on Latin America which were constructed within politics, economy, and culture in Latin America and the United States. According to these paradigms, there have been three forms of musicological approach to Latin America: Americanism, Inter-Americanism and Latin American Studies. Throughout the text, we offer several examples of researchers, approaches, and bibliography that support these three trends.
